International Accreditation

It is with much pride that we are able to share with our community that The Board of Trustees of the Council of International Schools (CIS) has concluded that Benton Junior College should immediately be awarded International Accreditation.

We all have so much to be proud of and thankful for. When we reflect that it was only five years ago that we opened our doors to the Mornington East community, it makes this achievement even more significant as International Accreditation confirms the strengths of our college programs and the hard work and support of our community.

In reaching their positive decision on accreditation, CIS Board Members have commended the College for its consultative and inclusive process in establishing our Philosophy and Objectives and the extent to which this is visible and observable in the College plans, programs and environs.

They commended staff for their willingness to collaborate, and to reflect on and think innovatively about their teacher practices and for their approach to planning, teaching, assessing and reviewing curriculum and methodology. They also noted the detailed curriculum documentation based on the IB - PYP and the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.

The Visiting Team wanted to acknowledge our College Council for placing great importance on, and supporting, ongoing professional learning and for their collegial and effective governance practices that allow fulfilment of College goals and aspirations.

The Principal Team has been commended for our vision and innovative educational practices in leading school improvement and for the recruitment and employment of highly motivated and team-orientated staff whose personal beliefs and teaching practices are consistent with the College’s Philosophy and Objectives.

The Visiting Team also commended the entire college community on the high levels of mutual respect and strong partnerships evident between parents, staff and children and for providing children with a wide range of co-curricular events and activities.

A key strength of the accreditation process requires the college to develop a strategic plan that will continue to focus on improved outcomes for children. So although the Visiting Team clearly viewed the college very positively, it also made some recommendations to assist our continued improvement in the coming years.

Well done Benton Junior College!
